Job description:

Job Title: Welfare Benefits Advisor
Salary: £25,992 (Pro Rata)
Hours of work: 21 hours + per week (negotiable)
Responsible to: Advice Team Leader
Benefits: 8% employer pension contribution, flexible working, 5 weeks annual leave and up to 4 weeks paid annual leave for carers (pro rata)
Contract: Initially for two years
Location: Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Overview of the role:
To support the delivery of a telephone advice service and community based face to face advice sessions for disabled people, their families and carers within Barnsley.

Main duties & responsibilities:

To provide telephone advice (general help with casework)
To provide follow-up work to a level agreed with line-manager
To signpost and/or make effective referrals to other support as available
To deliver advice sessions (general help with casework – Welfare Benefits) in community venues
To ensure that client records are accurate, maintained effectively and that confidentiality is maintained at all times
To liaise with representatives of relevant area councils
Develop, maintain and promote appropriate resources to support individuals to self-advocate
Support the work of the Contract Manager in order to ensure robust outcomes monitoring for the service
Assist the Contract Manager in raising awareness about the service
Liaise with internal staff in order to add value to the service provision and contribute to team meetings
Identify own training and development needs
Maintain good working relationships with external services
